Abstract: |
The development lay within a designated Area of Archaeological Interest as specified in the Wear Valley Local Plan (Policy 17E). 10 sites were within the boundaries of the development, two were identified as of regional significance, Old Hall Farm and its engine house. Apart from an area of medieval ridge and furrow in the south west corner of the site, most of these sites were associated with the development of the farm. A further five sites were identified within the study area, including one Scheduled Monument, the Stockton to Darlington Railway and two Grade II Listed Buildings. The assessment recommended a program of trial trenching, topographical survey, selective archaeological excavation and a watching brief. [Au(adp)] |
