Abstract: |
The desk-based assessment considered the archaeological potential of the site, and the likely impact on this by the proposed redevelopment, the main components of which had already involved the demolition of a building on the site and the proposed development of a pair of two-storey office buildings with associated car parking and access routes. The proposed structures did not have basements. Probable archaeological deposits and features consisted, in summary, of medieval and post-medieval pits, ditches and possible structures, relating to the early development of Hampton village. The principle impact of the proposed works would be new foundations, services, external parking areas and landscaping planned for the site. These were likely to adversely effect potential surviving archaeological deposits and features. The report concluded that further investigation (field evaluation) may be necessary to determine the exact nature and depth of such deposits. This evaluation could take place at the same time as any further geotechnical investigations undertaken by the developer. [Au(abr)] |
