Abstract: |
None of the five trenches excavated contained archaeological deposits and no artefacts were recovered from the trenches or spoilheaps. The absence of a topsoil and any reasonable subsoil across the site implied that previous activity would have heavily disturbed any archaeology that may have been present. The construction of the bowling green may have involved a certain amount of levelling and stripping of the site to produce a turfed lawn. However, the construction of the former research building was more likely to have truncated any layers that may have contained archaeological deposits. Based on the results of the rapid desktop survey and the evidence obtained in the fieldwork the site had no archaeological potential. [Au] |
