Abstract: |
Isolated findspots of Palaeolithic and Mesolithic date occured in the Study Area to the south of the M27 while surface scatters of artefacts probably of Neolithic and Bronze Age date occured to the north of the motorway. Ceramic tile production sites, a road and isolated finds of pottery, coins and other metalwork indicated Roman activity and although no known sites of Saxon date were encountered. Documentary sources indicated that a landing stage may have existed in Hamble during this period.[Au(abr)] |
