Abstract: |
A watching brief on ground disturbances was carried out at the site of a new house, constructed on the site of a former swimming pool. The monitoring was undertaken in response to concerns arising from the location of the site near to the Norman church at Peper Harow, itself a settlement with probable Saxon origins. The foundations of the pool proved to have been quite massive, and large quantities of rubble were removed. The exposed soil profile at the edge of the pool showed c. 0.50m of disturbed soils sealing natural sand. It was concluded that if any material of archaeological interest had existed at the site, it had probably been removed or disturbed by previous activities. [AIP] |
