Abstract: |
A watching brief on the site preparation and digging of 18 foundation trenches for the erection of an agricultural building in an area of high archaeological potential revealed only modern features. No medieval horizon was recovered despite the ruins of the medieval church lying only a few metres away. This suggests that the medieval settlement remains have been lost due to long term wind erosion at this exposed site. Some white patinated flint waste flakes were recovered, possibly remains of the prehistoric barrows and field system in the adjacent field. Post-medieval brick fragments were also recovered. [AIP] |
