Abstract: |
The open tin workings of Wheal Luna at Trevaunance Point are documented in 1528 and are reputed to be much earlier. The little harbour under the cliff on the west side of the cove was built 1793, after three earlier attempts, to serve the mines around St Agnes and encourage local pilchard fishing. The harbour was neglected after the decline of the mining industry and opening of the railway to St Agnes at the turn of the 20th century. The principle visible archaeological remains were of the old harbour, Wheal Luna open work and the ore hutches.[Au(abr)] |
