Abstract: |
Eight mine shafts were to be capped for health and safety reasons under the Derelict Land Grant scheme operated by English Partnerships. Specific accounts of the historical backgrounds of the mines affected by the shaft capping proposals were created. The mines affected were, Wheal Treasury mine, Great Western mine, Wheal Penrose mine and South Wheal Frances mine. It was noted that the various measures taken to ensure public safety all resulted in some measure of disturbance to shaft heads and surroundings, often delicate archaeological sites. [AIP] |
