Abstract: |
The evaluation identified evidence of an east-west ditch with a possible north-south return, likely to have been Civil War in date. Documentary evidence suggested that this ditch formed part of the outworks to the east of Lawford's Gate, captured in 1645 by the Parliamentarian forces of Fairfax. It was also suggested that the Royalist forces of Prince Rupert created these defences after 1643 and that they were back-filled soon after the Civil War. [Au(abr)] |
