Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a site close to the medieval St. Nicholas' Hospital which lay outside the towns medieval boundary. Three trenches were excavated revealing medieval and post-medieval features, including the remains of the 19th century Spital Cottages. Human bones were recovered from site which may be those recorded in 1770. Burials were disturbed when the Lewes to Brighton turnpike road was constructed. [Au(abr)] |
