Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of the proposed site of a restaurant within an Archaeological Priority Zone was undertaken. Prehistoric artefacts had been recorded in the area, whilst Roman burials and other features had been excavated at an adjacent site. Settlement in the area had been documented since the 11th century. Civil War defences had lain nearby, and a 17th-18th century starch works had partly occupied the site. It was concluded that an evaluation would be necessary. [AIP] |
