Abstract: |
A stretch of ashlar walling forming part of the boundary of St Peter's Methodist School was cleaned and recorded prior to being shored with timber frames. The wall was originally constructed, probably in the early to mid 14th century, as a parapet for a bridge carrying Greyfriars Passage over a watercourse known as Thuate. Four phases of repair, probably dating to the mid 16th, mid 18th/ early 19th and mid to late 20th centuries were noted. One end of the wall was collapsing, perhaps as a result of the failure of the southern abutment of the bridge's putative southern archway.[Au(abr)] |
