Abstract: |
Excavations and a subsequent watching brief found that the site was first occupied in the medieval period. During the 16th century the site was used for small industries and a range of new houses were built in the 1780s. These houses were demolished in the 20th century, making way for the Drill Hall and Government house, which was founded on immense concrete foundations. [Au(abr)] |
