Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken in the gardens of Nonsuch Palace. Some of the trenches were placed so as to test specific features identified by earlier geophysical surveys. Boundary walls of the palace gardens and orchard were revealed, and a medieval pit was also found. The pit may have been associated with the ancient village of Cuddington which Henry VIII had destroyed in order to build Nonsuch Palace in 1538. As a result of the excavations a more definite starting point for further interpretation of the palace gardens in this area was established. [AIP] |
