Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during experimental drain testing. The fieldwork comprised the excavation of five 'recharge' trenches in an area previously subjected to archaeological evaluation, which had identified flint scatters of Mesolithic date in close proximity to the proposed trenches. During the course of the watching brief, no archaeological features, deposits or artefact scatters were recorded during the excavation of any of the five trenches or an additional sondage. The sequence of peat and alluvial deposits were recorded and was found to conform closely with the sedimentological sequence previously recorded during the earlier archaeological evaluation.
