Abstract: |
An intensive programme of monitoring of alteration work at the Dolphin and Anchor Hotel, West Street, Chichester revealed Roman, medieval and post-medieval features demonstrating a continuous sequence of activity on the site since Roman times. The site was believed to be in the vicinity of the Forum in the centre of the Roman town. Pits of Saxo-Norman date along with pottery finds succeeded the Roman phase, and a wall and rubbish pits were created later in the medieval period. Much of the medieval activity on the site was probably masked by alteration in the post-medieval period. [AIP] |
