Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out at an opencast coal site. A contour survey of the remains of the Ashby Canal, which crossed the site, was also undertaken, and a trench was cut across it. Further trenches were excavated within the Brick Kiln Close area, which had been proposed for soil mounds. At this location, the former ground level was found to have been buried beneath 0.9 metres of overburden derived from recent landscaping; no evidence of kilns was revealed. No significant archaeological remains were observed during the watching brief. [AIP] |
