Abstract: |
During 1996 Cornwall Archaeological Unit carried out an archaeological evaluation and watching brief associated with the construction by South West Water of a waste water pumping station on St Michael's Mount and a waste water main between the island and the mainland. Although not revealing the submerged peat deposits that were thought possibly to exist in the area, the work did provide information on the nature and construction of the causeway, together with evidence for large scale land reclamation of the foreshore on the north-eastern side of the island, traces of a fish cellar and a wooden structure associated with a cesspit.
