Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed no significant objects and the only features located were a brick-lined cellar and a ragstone foundation. The former was not on the 1840 and 1933 OS maps and may have been a wartime structure. The ragstone foundations ran with the contour and could have related to a tank shown on 19th century maps at this point. Trench 9 close to the Rover Len, revealed deep mud-silts and a sharply defined bank cut into the ragstone. The pottery in this was 19th century and on its merits it represented a silted up millpond of comparatively recent date. Trench 10 produced six walls and an early brick culvert. It seemed certain that these all formed part of the mill buildings, which occupied the site from about 1780-1960. [Au(adp)] |
