Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a hotel and conference centre identified that a cropmark comprising an oval enclosure with part of a second enclosure had been recorded within the application area. Further cropmarks had been recorded in the surrounding area, and a Roman road passed to the west. Historical maps suggested that the site had formed part of Whittlewood Forest until its fragmentation in the 19th century. A magnetometer survey was carried out at the site, but no significant anomalies were detected. It was noted that landscaping associated with a golf course could have removed evidence relating to the enclosure ditches. [AIP] |
