Abstract: |
Phase 2 of this evaluation comprised the excavation of three trenches in the area of the former mill buildings. A desktop assessment had suggested a mill at the site from pre-conquest times onwards. The earliest structural evidence from the evaluation comprised a wall which pre-dated a leveling phase associated with the construction of the early 19th century mill building, as did a gravel bank interpreted as a dam. The earliest artefacts encountered were 12th-15th century Humber ware sherds. No pre-conquest of medieval deposits were encountered. [Au(abr)] |
