Abstract: |
An assessment was carried out in advance of proposed extensions to the council offices. Archaeological potential for the site was high, as it was located within the medieval extent of the town. It was thought that in theory archaeological remains from the Palaeolithic may be encountered, although modern development was expected to have severely truncated many remains. The proximity of the Rampart, the Scheduled Ancient Monument of the Saxon cemetery that lay within the study area and Grade II* Listed Building also needed to be considered. [Au(adp)] |
