Abstract: |
Two metalled surfaces and a possible wall foundation were found together with a large quantity of pottery and tile, the majority of which comprised kiln waste. The first metalled surface was made up of roughly hewn pieces of limestone of varying sizes and was situated towards the southern part of the site, with a similar, smaller metalled area a little further north. The latter may have represented a post-pad, although it seemed more likely that it had originally formed part of the same surface as metalled surface 1. Pottery and tile of late 15th century date were found both immediately above, within and beneath these surfaces and they probably represented areas of hard standing or yards. A third feature, to the south-east of the excavated area, appeared to represent the lower course of a wall foundation. [Au(adp)] |
