Abstract: |
Minimal evidence for previous occupation was encountered. Two pieces of pottery, one of 12th/14th century date and one of 16th/17th century date were recovered. All layers exposed to the south of the site, where groundworks cut a section through an earth bank, were re-deposited. No features were identified except for some modern features at the north-east end. The lack of evidence can be accounted for by the fact that levelling the site for the original theatre had removed all the stratified archaeological material. A lens of peat was recorded. [Au(abr)] |
