Abstract: |
The former lead works lay outside the boundaries of medieval Bristol, in an area of marsh immediately to the south of the site of Bristol Castle. It was close to the King's Orchard, which was contiguous with the castle and extended from the channel of the castle moat to a ditch which surrounded the Old Market area and which approximately followed the present line of Passage Street and Lawford Street. The site had clear archaeological potential survival of subsurface archaeological remains which would most probably be related to the post-medieval industrial use of the site for lime burning, glass production and lead production. Standing buildings were also recorded which formed part of the lead works. [AIP] |
