Abstract: |
Between August 1999 and May 2000 the Archaeology Service carried out archaeological work prior to the construction of a meeting room on the north side of the trench. The work comprised three main phases, the first was the levelling of an existing bank, the second two evaluation trenches and thirdly the excavation, under archaeological control, of the foundation trenches for the new building. A total of 152 graves were recorded, the majority of which were likely to have been of 18th-20th century date. At least 50% of the excavated graves were of infants pertaining to the latest use of this part of the cemetery. No other archaeological deposits were encountered. [Au(abr)] |
