Abstract: |
Twelve archaeological trial trenches were excavated in advance of proposed development. A number of truncated pits and post holes were encountered, preserved beneath topsoil below the level of subsoil. These were concentrated around an area of higher ground in the centre of the evaluation area. A hearth pit produced an assemblage of sherds from an Early Neolithic or 4th millennium BC bowl, and two finely worked leaf arrowheads. There was evidence of Neolithic activity in the environs, and it seemed that part of the site was used for occupation during this period. Two fragments of polished stone axes were also recovered.
