Abstract: |
A sketch survey of Old Wood and part of Horsemoor Wood at Heligan was undertaken as part of a programme of clearance and garden restoration undertaken since 1991. A complex of remains were revealed, of medieval and post-medieval date. The earliest known features were earth banks which divided areas of woodland, meadows and fields. Other sites in the valley included charcoal burning platforms, quarries and a group of hollow-ways. Recommendations for the archaeological features included presentation of the valley as it may have looked in the later 18th to mid-19th century, this would necessitate further archaeological work.
