Abstract: |
The location of the appraisal site was situated to the east of the historic core of Romsey. The site had a low archaeological potential for containing archaeological deposits earlier than post-medieval in date. However, the precise location of the medieval hospital of St. Mary Magdelane and St. Anthony was as yet unknown, but may have been situated nearby. The site was considered to have high potential for revealing elements of post-medieval industrial archaeology related to the Andover and Redbridge canal and the brickworks situated just to the south of the site.
