Abstract:		 An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the proposed Poole Harbour approach channel deepening and beneficial use of dredges material scheme. The study area also included beaches at Bournemouth, Poole and Swanage. The study indicated that the proposed dredging activity would impact a series of deposits within Poole Harbour that appeared to represent the remains of pre inundation topography dating to the period between the Late Upper Palaeolithic and the Roman period. In addition spoil disposal activity may have impacted the Scheduled Ancient Monument of Hengistbury Head and a shipwreck within the spoil disposal ground. [Au(adp)]
