Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out on seven sites along the pipeline. Two gullies representing the remnants of possible plot or enclosure ditches of field systems and probably Iron Age in date were recorded on Alvington Down. Sherds of pottery and a fragmented loom weight all of Iron Age date were recovered from one of the gullies which suggested contemporary settlement within the vicinity. Find scatters were identified at the other sites on the route of the pipeline. This material included prehistoric flints and sherds of medieval pottery, probably household rubbish from Alvington Manor Farm. [Au(abr)] |
