Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment of the proposed site of a new sewage treatment works and the route of a transfer pipeline was undertaken. The study area extended from the A30 at Race Farm near Camborne, along the Red River Valley to the North Cliffs, across Reskajeage Downs to the southern end of Portreath on the north coast. A total of 151 sites of possible archaeological interest were identified. The sites ranged in date from a Mesolithic flint scatter at Race Farm to WWII defences along Raskajeage Downs and within Illogan Woods. The most significant discovery was made at Race Farm - a multi-phased buried landscape of medieval (and possibly earlier) date. The remains of a settlement and two phases of field system were clearly identified by a geophysical survey (magnetometer). [Au] |
