Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation revealed several phases of ditch running south of and parallel with a scarp crossing the site on an east to west orientation. The ridge had previously been thought to represent the line of the supposed northern section of Fleam Dyke (an Anglo-Saxon earthwork). Finds recovered from the lower fills of the major ditches in Trenches 1 and 4 were dated to the mid to late 18th century and no earlier material was residual within those deposits. Trench 1 also contained pits that may have been earlier in date. No archaeological features were encountered in trenches 2 and 3. [Au(abr)] |
