Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out during work to excavate and remove the tarmac paths from the Tudor Garden in the precincts of St. Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury, which was in an Area of Archaeological Importance, a World Heritage Site and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Other than the standing Tudor walls and later alterations, the only contexts likely to be of archaeological importance were possible floor or bedding deposits of 16th-18th century date. A resistivity survey was also carried out in a small area adjacent to the north-west (Ethelbert's) Tower of the Abbey church to determine suitable positions for two or three tree pits (the subject of a separate report).
