Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a site which overlay the line of the Roman city wall, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Two trenches were excavated, and the survival of the full width of the wall was established. Two Roman rubbish pits containing pottery dated to 70-120 AD were discovered, and an 18th or 19th century cess-pit or well was also found. This contained a set of dentures made from real teeth. It was concluded that a detailed survey of the wall would be useful so that subsequent impacts could be monitored. [AIP] |
