Abstract: |
Three phases were identified occupying the area adjacent to the street frontage during these works. The earliest was indicated by a layer of dark silt with charcoal and daub or brick fragments representing a late medieval occupation deposit. Pottery recovered suggested a late 15th to early 16th century date for this deposit. The second phase was represented by the remains of a possible 18th century building and the third phase consisted of several pits and the remains of the recently demolished 'L' shaped building which was shown on the 1854 1st edition Ordnance Survey Map.
