Abstract: |
Four trial trenches totalling 53 metres in length were excavated. Trench one revealed a succession of intercutting pits of 18th-19th century date. The two rubbish pits found in trench two were of 18th and 13-14th century origin respectively. The western portion of trench three revealed three pits of late 17-19th date. Two further pits within this trench yielded 11th/12th century and 15th century pottery, a post hole produced 15-16th century pottery and a pit produced residual Late Bronze Age worked flints. In trench four, a red brick floor surface from 18th century cottages demolished in 1960 was recorded. [Au(abr)] |
