Abstract: |
<summary>Desk-based assessment and preliminary field survey were undertaken in advance of proposed mine-capping and land reclamation works. Wheal Basset, which formed one of a group of mine setts on the Great Flat Lode, was worked possibly as far back as the 15th and 16th centuries. The main intensive phase of production, however, commenced in the 19th century. Extant features identified included a leat, a probable mine building, a railway-cutting and tunnel, a section of boundary wall, areas of 20th century rubbish dumps over 19th century mine dumps, and a mine tramway. At least five shafts were believed to lie within the study area, although little surface trace of these was identified as most had been infilled. {italon}AIP {italoff} |
