Abstract: |
Archaeological photographic recording of a barn proposed for conversion into a dwelling was undertaken. All exterior and most interior elevations were recorded, with the exception of those which had been cement or plaster rendered to such a degree that architectural details were obscured. The barn lay immediately adjacent to Sherrington's Farmhouse, a building which appeared to be of early to mid-18th century construction. The house was thought to have been considerably enlarged, and the barn constructed, in c. 1800. Prominent features of the barn's exterior included owl holes and ventilation holes. Within the barn a scar from a demolished projecting wall, a blocked pedestrian entrance, and a blocked cart entrance which had been reduced to form a pedestrian doorway were noted. [AIP] |
