Abstract: |
A watching brief during cable laying on St Mary's from the Garrison Gate to the Star Castle, a 16th century artillery fort, revealed features beneath the surface of the curtain wall including the cobbled roof of a blocked-off room and what appeared to be rubble make-up for the paved gun platforms. Artefacts of post-medieval date were recovered from the castle moat and a single piece of Romano-British pottery was also found, from a field east of the castle. [AIP] |
