Abstract: |
The site was situated within an area of comparatively intensive Romano-British activity and post-medieval coal mining. It was considered that Stonehill had been constructed on the line of the Roman road from Bath to Sea Mills. The house and the market garden were of early 20th century date, built on farm land which had probably been farmed on the strip system before being enclosed at some time before the early 19th century. A 19th century coal mine drainage level passed below the site, but had probably not affected the site itself. [Au(adp)] |
