Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed evidence for early Iron Age settlement comprising post-built circular structures and associated post holes and pits. A large number of large linear features were also revealed, although the exact nature and function of these was difficult to establish. A defensive function was tentatively postulated. A number of other linear features were interpreted as a field system, dating from the Romano-British period. Ridge and furrow was also identified. Landscaping and levelling of the site to create the airfield in the 1940s was evident. [Au(adp)] |
