Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. Apart from one pit of uncertain date, the excavated trenches failed to locate any significant archaeological remains. Moreover, much of the ground at the south-east end of the site seemed to have been deeply disturbed by Copperfield House and its subsequent demolition. The very light scatter of prehistoric struck flints contained within the topsoil and subsoil layers together with the single archaeological feature represented the only evidence for ancient activity on the site.
