Abstract: |
An archaeological and historical assessment was undertaken of one of the two historic bridges at Hele Bridge ahead of strengthening works. The bridge crossed the dried up bed of the Bude Canal, c. half a kilometre to the south of the settlement of Hele. It was a relatively well-preserved 19th century bridge, which could be dated to 1820 from primary historic documentation. This bridge was a Grade II Listed Building, as was the other 19th century bridge of the River Neet to the immediate north of this bridge. It was recommended that a photographic record should be made during the progress of the works and that copies of the photographs and accompanying records should be lodged with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly SMR.
