Abstract: |
Archaeological excavation was undertaken of a section through the old sea wall. A section through the old sea wall or bank revealed a number of alluvial clay contexts. A buried turf horizon with blackened grass was found below the central part of the bank. It was possible that the bank was constructed in 1969, when Brean Cross Sluice was constructed. Map evidence suggested that the point where the trench was located the sea wall had been straightened. The original sea wall may have lain to the east of the excavated section. One context observed in section within the eastern side of the bank may have represented the western side of this earlier bank. [Au(adp)] |
