Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on the site of a proposed new library in Bodmin. The proposed development area was a garden at the rear of Barclays Bank on Mount Folly. The site was of potential significance as it lay at the heart of the designated Historic Settlement, between the sites of the Augustinian Priory and the Franciscan Friary. Preliminary documentary and cartographic research indicated that the site probably lay within the enclosing wall of the Priory precinct. Fieldwork, consisting of seven trenches, revealed evidence of the primary use of the site during the medieval and post-medieval had been horticultural. If the development proceeded it was recommended that an archaeological watching brief should be carried out during groundwork on the site. [AIP] |
