Abstract:
The evaluation revealed the edge of an early post-medieval pit, a 19th century boundary wall and culvert. Also revealed was a section of medieval walling and an area of rough cobble metalling. The wall remains probably represented short lengths of the boundary walls of a lane (recorded on the 1872 OS map) leading in from the town and crossing an open wet dyke in the area formerly occupied by the Whitefriars monastic complex.
