Abstract: |
An archaeological and cultural assessment was undertaken in response to a proposal to develop the site into seven flats and car parking. The wider area of South Gosforth was known to have been an important medieval village. It was probable that the site itself was within the extremes of the original boundaries of the village and had an important location in terms of the salt trade. This left the possibility that important medieval remains may have existed on the site of the scout hut itself which was constructed in 1952. Further archaeological evaluation was recommended.
