Abstract:
The watching brief was carried out during groundworks for the construction of new industrial units across part of the site of the former Tilmanstone Colliery. Inspection of the site established that it had been levelled by terracing into the chalk hillside, sometime prior to the present building programme commencing, perhaps during the 1980's as part of the initial landscaping after the colliery closure.
