Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of the construction of student accommodation on the site. The evaluation involved the removal of building rubble and make-up deposits from six trenches. A Romano-British inhumation and cremation cemetery was discovered in 1859 immediately to the east of the development area. Some Roman and medieval material was recovered within a buried topsoil but the absence of further cremations or inhumations suggested that the cemetery did not extend as far west as was previously thought.
